a [wake]

In Spring 2023, my best friend Isla and I self-published a zine about walking.

We were interested in the multifaceted ways the act of walking inspired poetry, thoughts, questions and dreams.

I was particularly interested in how an environment is constructed from our forms, the scale of tensions that arises between getting somewhere faster and getting nowhere, the feeling of directionlessness, and the path of a single woman. I wasn't/am not interested in the practical usefulness of walking.

Isla was particularly interested in the ritual of ephemeral movement, how bodies read the landscape, internal wayfinding, the narrative birthed by wanderers and the creative wells that are reached by foot. She wasn't/is not interested in either linear walking or linear thinking.

Here you can find some samples of its pages.
